Meet The Create Crew.
Professor Michael Cowling (aka Professor Tech).
Michael is founder and executive director of the The Create Lab. Established in 2019, TCL provides outreach and engagement to educators, students and the general public. It provides a way for Michael to give back to the community in his role as a university professor, and amongst the community he’s known as “Professor Tech”. As a university professor, Michael has been awarded the Universities Australia Award for Teaching Excellence for his university teaching practice, and is a recognised expert in the field of Educational Technology and Mixed Reality.
Erin Cowling (aka Mrs Tech).
Erin is the business director for TCL, having come onboard in 2023 as interest from schools and the general public has grown. Having supported Michael as his wife for over 15 years, Erin is in a perfect position to understand what Professor Tech does. As business director, she holds the reins in driving the business forward, and is a key contact for schools and other stakeholders. Beyond her connection to Michael, Erin is an experienced educational administrator, having held roles at Griffith University, Bond University and CQUniversity over the years.
Dean Martin.
Dean is a longtime TCL staff member and has worked with the lab for five years. Starting as an event organiser in 2019, he has moved on to be the main Producer for the Weaving Technology into the Fabric of the Classroom K - 12 workshop series, and also assists with other events for Professor Tech.
Dean Muir.
Dean (Deano) is the newest TCL staff member, coming onboard during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide technical support, including building VR demonstrations and working on our social media presence. Deano has progressed to a role as Producer for the Professor Tech’s Intro to Awesome workshop series for school students and the general public, and also assists with other events that Professor Tech is involved with.
